For us Product Managers, things are aren’t always easy. You might have felt one or more of the following:

  • You go through the day with a packed calendar, but end up feeling like you got nothing done.
  • You question your product strategy direction at times, but are expected to have a firm, clear answer for your engineering team.
  • You are not trusted to make decisions without approval of several stakeholders.
  • You spend more time playing the role of project manager and facilitator than product manager.
  • You’ve seen a lot of advice out on the internet. You could find 100 articles 3 minutes and 10 books without a problem. But you don’t feel like you are getting measurably better
  • You question: are you the only one that facing this struggle? That you are falling behind? That you are unsure you are doing the right things to advance to the next level?

I have felt like that too. A lot. For the first few years, I questioned if I was any good on a daily basis. I worried about how far I was from the amazing stories I hear about “those amazing” Product Managers.

It took a long time for me to experiment and build practices that actually worked. Not just frameworks that were good in theory, but worked in real life. That helped me get effective, but as importantly, helped me maintain my sanity and happiness level.

Which led me to a key question. As reflection often does.

Could I do something to teach product managers how to up-level their skills and progress in their career faster? Could I shortcut their time of struggle, and get them in a cadence of getting better everyday?

After a lot of thought, I came to the conclusion: perhaps, by focusing on soft skills first.

And so it progressed with an experiment, like these things do.

I conducted a group coaching pilot with seven students. Over ten weeks we learned five Product Management practices. Practices such as presence, communication, relationships and stakeholder management, running great meetings and productivity and focus. We reflected on our practice and taught each other tips and tricks on how to improve the practice.

Since then, things have evolved quite a bit. I have to say I was a little all over the place in the pilot :). But thanks to subsequent group coaching classes, the great students in them, and all my friends who referred them, I have learned a lot, and been able to refine the classes significantly. And seen a remarkable transformation in so many of my students.

It’s been gratifying to see Intentional Product Manager in many places, online and in the real world.

And now it is time to take things to the next level, as you do with these things.

On August 1st, I will be launching the first batch of Intentional Product Manager Essentials online. This batch of students will learn the same skills, but at their own pace, via an online video course, coupled with step by step guides and worksheets, and an accountability buddy to keep you honest, accountable and motivated.

These are on for pre-sale now for $97. Registration closes August 1st when the course launches.

So if you are a product manager who is ready to learn essential Product Management soft skills and take their career to the next level, enroll now before this batch closes.

Now i’ll be honest with you: this requires work. But so does anything worth doing. I believe that in five weeks of lessons condensed from years of experience and applying these practices, you can grow by leaps and bounds as a product manager.
