Change and Momentum

Ask anyone about driving change and they will tell you about inspiring people towards change. About creating a vision so compelling that people are drawn towards it. Change starts to feel like some sort of magic.

But mostly, change is about momentum. It is about small things that over time drive dramatic changes.

It is about nudges; about one more proof point as to why people should change

It’s about getting people to get comfortable towards your intended direction. ‘Let’s try this” is the most effective sentence I have seen in driving people towards change.

It is about 1:1s that create ongoing excitement on the next step to your end vision

So don’t assume change to happen fast, or be driven by a dramatic speech that you give. Those things have their place. But as important — or even more so — is how you help your team take just one more step, and experience the benefits for themselves. Stay with them through this journey, maintain excitement, get their feedback.

You will see resistance and obstacles. And then — a little less resistance. That means its working.
